PIG-A-SUS Homestead

JULY 2024 NEWSLETTER

As July comes around the corner we wanna enjoy the fireworks with safety in mind, the Homestead and Sanctuary has been under fire watch all Summer as the hot temperatures approach it also brings in the dry heat. So have fun and be safe! We also have some exciting news happening at the Pig-A-Sus Sanctuary.

First and foremost we are entering our hot months of the year and we are experiencing hot temperatures. With the high temperatures we are consuming high water levels. We always provide and make sure that every potbelly has a nice cold mud spot to play and cool down, while they always have fresh clean drinking water. That usually comes to 100 gallons to 150 gallons of water every day per pig. Leaving us at 66 * 150 = 9,900 gallons of water a day.

We have added trees to provide shade, but could always use more donated fruit or shade trees. If you would like to donate trees to the Pig-A-Sus please visit our website at Pig-A-Sus Sanctuary.

Secondly, With the cost of feed, protein and minerals skyrocketing again, it is going to be a very conservative summer for the Pig-A-Sus. As many of you know we have been cut back with our business in gas and energy which has supported the Pig-A-Sus for over 25+,. Big Corporations have moved into small business and have demanded insurance requirements that do not cover things that we do, but unless you meet their requirements we are not allowed to work for them anymore. After considering investing into their requirements, we have decided to not move forward with their requirements, as it is an extreme amount of money that we will not be able to recoup yearly. So we will continue to work with a few “Small Businesses” in gas and oil and hope for the best.

We are still farming and hoping to be able to continue with the crops that we need to buy locally. Our corn prices have doubled in the last 3 years locally, along with protein and minerals. Thankfully we have been doing well on medical expenses. Thanks to a local rancher, we have been able to double up with them and order our supplies from out of area, which has been a great savings.
Thirdly we spent a lot of time, energy and help from the community service clients, when we brought the two red barn for the potbellies. They have surprised everyone here at the Pig-A-Sus with how little they use or enjoy the big red barns!

With that being said we would like to invite two lucky donators to come stay the night with the potbellies! SEE WEB PAGE AUGUST 1 THRU 15 FOR HOW TO REGISTER .
One cabin is dedicated to the Old fashion NARROW GAUGE railroads (Uintah Rail & Steam Engines up and over Achee) where we have old trails to hike and cycling. MAPS PROVIDED.
The other is honoring the pets that have passed over the rainbow bridge.
In both cabins are beautiful painted murals by locals, microwave, small refrigerator, bed & loft sleeping. A centralized bathroom is also on premises. (Washer, dryer, shower)
We will be ready for sharing the cabins with the public and Pig-A-Sus between August 1 thru August 15. (Last minute hoopla before school starts for kids).

We have several other options also, birthday parties, outings, volunteering, people traveling with their potbelly pigs and “Special Needs Groups” & One on One with Rescues. Watch For updates on website, www.pigasus.org or call 970-985-5661 to make a reservation. We also will have information on facebook pages.

We have purchased an additional 20 trees, some shade, some for fruit. Wanting to get those planted before fall when temperatures are a bit cooler.

Also would like to offer to School District 51, Charter Schools and Homeschooling groups the opportunity to adopt a Potbelly Pig for a month or months and to also do a “Change Fundraiser” for their teachers to Kiss A Pig!

We are accepting carrots, apples and watermelon for the potbelly pigs. We ask that they be somewhat fresh, and no mold. We also will Kick Off our fall “Blanket & Towel Drive” September 1, 2024. Will list Drop Off places in our September Newsletter. Please remember NO BATTING OR STUFFING IN BLANKETS AND PLEASE NO SHEETS.

Toward end of Summer Season and Beginning of Fall Season, we will offer a hands-on Day for the potbelly pigs. We encourage for parents to bring their children and Especially Special Need Kids to share cookies and apples with the rescues animals.

We had to cut cost in several areas that were costing us more to have events than we were getting in donations back for the Sanctuary.

We have made the decision to NOT have Summer or Fall FUNDRAISERS THIS YEAR.
BUT WILL DO “CHRISTMAS SEASON’’ STARTING
DECEMBER 1, 2024 TO JANUARY 1, 2025 FOR THE COMMUNITY.

WE WELCOME DRIVE BY’S TO SEE DECORATIONS AND WALK THRU MAY BE SCHEDULED.
