Summer Update 2024
- June was a fairly decent month for farm work, potbelly pigs and gathering up food (corn) for the winter for feed.
- We are still currently working in Gas and Oil work to keep everything afloat.
- Donations and volunteer work has been very slow and since Covid, prices have more than doubled in cost for mineral, proteins and our main stable corn.
This year in August we have renewed our farm lease for 5 years and hopefully going to be able to maintain irrigation water for growing crops. As I said in June we purchased enough Shell Corn to get us thru the new harvest in late November.
We currently have 58 potbelly pigs and all are doing well. Summer heat has been horrid and we have lost 4 to extreme age and temperatures in range from 105 to 115. We have about 85 % of the Red Barns redone to accommodate as overnight cabins for visitors to Pig-A-Sus . Or we can also offer for Special Needs, adults and children.
One cabin shares information about the area and the Narrow Railroad Uintah Rail, and biking trails along with BLM marked trails. The 2nd cabin attributes to the Pig-A Sus and all the experiences with the potbelly pigs, including Rainbow Bridge steps and arrival at Heavens Gate. People can visit and place their Potbelly Pig pictures and share their stories of their pets rather potbelly pig, cat, dog etc. anything that is important to your child. We have been blessed in the last 10 days lots of rain, mud and lightening. very close strikes and even closer fires. But have been able to maintain.
I would like to take a Personal Moment and thank everyone for their prayers for our son Micheal and his partner Riley of Salt Lake City, Utah. Riley was on this way to work on August 7, 2024 , arrived and as he entered he collapsed to the floor. He went into Full Cardiac Arrest. A company medic was on site and started CPR and after no results, applied paddles’ arrived and continued processes. Riley was with out oxygen for over 23 minutes. He was in ICU Cardic Arrest Section in hospital on life support. After 8 days they removed the life support items and he continued to breathe on his own with restriction. The rest has been a miracle in itself. He was moved to a division of Craig Nelson Rehab Center in Salt Lake. Recovery is going to be a long process, but we re praying for the best. Please keep prayers and all else for all involved. Again thank you to all those who have reached out for any and all help.
The oilfield is very slow this time of year and will pickup in about 30/45 days as cooler months approach. We continue to work with the every day needs to keep the Sanctuary a working Sanctuary. We also are trying to meet the needs of potbelly pigs owners for their needs also. Right now we have a waiting list , looking for fosters or new additions at Pigasus of 27 pigs from 2/3 years old up to 15. We will be having an online seminar in late September for winter care and medicines for your pet and self to ensure a good winter for not only the ones living in a home, but those who are outside in the elements. My heart breaks when I have to tell someone with young pigs that I can not take them. People do not realize the life span of the potbelly pig, and also don’t realize our age (lol) I wish I could live to be a old old age, but very unlikely!!!
Watch the Web page www.pigasus.org for updates and our projected dates as long as “Mother Nature “will corporate for Saturday, October 19th (lots of new things) and our Christmas at Pigasus. Starting last week of November. “Feed the Pigs” Cookies and Hot Chocolate. We will post days for that and all Christmas decorations and lights hopefully (if Mother Nature WORKS with us) turns on Thanksgiving Night.
Please send prayers for all the animals: 58 potbelly pigs, 17 “Dropped off cats” along with all the wildlife that drops in for short visits, antelope, wild turkeys and occasionally, my favorite the momma bear and her cubs….
May God bless and bring lots of love and light for you, your loved ones and those animals that are extend family to you and yours.
